The Royal Wedding: Meghan Markle Wedding Dress Sketches

May 10, 2018 Wedding Ideas, Tips and Inspiration

It’s almost here! The most anticipated wedding\nof 2018: member of the British royal family Prince Harry and American former\nactress Meghan Markle. The wedding will take place on May 19, 2018, at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castlein England.

\n

We’re just as excited as the rest of the world\nto see Meghan Markle’s wedding gown. Which silhouette will she choose? What\ncolor? What details will make us swoon? The designers at Val Stefani\nillustrated a few sketches we think could showcase her signature “California\ncool” style that blends chic with classic. Which is your fav?

Meghan Markle Wedding Dress #1: Modern Royalty

\n\n

We sketched a convertible 2-in-1 wedding gown we\nthink would be divine for a modern royal bride like Meghan. It’s a\nfigure-hugging crepe and lace mermaid gown with subtle beaded lace appliqués.\nMost royal brides wear elegant sleeves so we’ve kept that classic style but\nused illusion sleeves which are both sexy and subtle. The detachable organza\noverskirt gives the bride two fashion styles in one dress: a regal look for the\nwedding ceremony and a stunning gown for the reception.

\n

Meghan rocked form-fitting dresses during her\nHollywood red carpet days while an actress on the American TV series Suits .\nThis mermaid silhouette with a detachable overskirt would accentuate her\nwaistline which she likes to feature. She also loves sleeves. Although this\ndesign is a nod to some classic features of royal wedding dresses such as long\nsleeves, the modern take such as illusion sleeves really reflect Meghan’s sleek\nstyle.

Meghan Markle Wedding Dress #2: Daringly Feminine

\n\n

There’s no doubt about it...a gown like this\nwould be a bold choice. Yes, it’s a ball gown silhouette which is a popular and\ntimeless look for royal weddings. However, details like the deep V neckline is\nnot typical of royal wedding dresses. The illusion sleeves, hand beaded detailed and 3D floral are also quite contemporary--and very Meghan.

\n

We think this gown reflects Meghan’s “California\nchic” sense of style. The plunging neckline has been making a splash on couture\nbridal runways and Meghan could pull off this sexy feature. She might even go\nfor a nontraditional wedding dress color such as champagne or gold. This gown\nis romantic yet fashion-forward. Is it too fashion-forward, or perfectly fashionable,\nfor a royal wedding? If anyone could pull off this look, it’s Meghan.

\n
Meghan Markle Wedding Dress #3: Traditional Twist
\n\n

Of our three sketches, this one looks on par\nwith a classic royal wedding. The bateau neckline is regal, reminiscent of style\nicon Grace Kelly’s wedding gown (but lowered for a more modern feel). This\nclassic silhouette features long sleeves, natural waistline and a train. But we\ngave classic style a modernized look with large floral lace appliqués. We also\ncombined textured lace along the bodice and lace details under the tulle to add\nelegant details.

\n

Meghan isn’t afraid of eye-catching details\nmixed with a classic silhouette. We’ve seen her wear gowns with floral\npatterns. She also likes to accentuate her waist even when wearing her tailored\ncoats. Could something like this be the one? This modest gown would win\napproval for the royal wedding. We think Meghan would adore the twist on\ntraditional style.

\n

Which of these would you choose as Meghan\nMarkle’s wedding dress?

\nMeghan will look stunning\nin whatever she chooses to wear on her wedding day. We can’t wait to see what\nshe’ll surprise us in! We wish her and Prince Harry a beautiful wedding, and a\nlifetime of love and happiness.
